Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag Drive a Huge Success

Monroe County Hospital’s spirit committee held its first annual Thanksgiving Meal in a bag Friday, November 21st. The goal of the spirit committee was to gather 100 meals. Each meal in a bag consisted of a ham, green beans, yams, bread, and a dessert. The spirit committee sent out donation letter through the Monroe Area Chamber of Commerce, to the different departments in the hospital, and to friends and family. The donations were set at $20.00 per bag, and all the money was spent on that bag.
“I was very hopeful that we would reach our goal of 100 meals,” stated Kim Sheffield Public Relations Coordinator. “The spirit committee did an excellent job, but none of this would have been possible without the generous donations we received. The response was overwhelming, as we grew closer to our deadline, the donations started pouring in”
On Friday the total Meals in a Bag had reached over 150.
“When the idea was first brought up about doing the meals in a bag drive, we wanted to make sure we could reach the needy and sick in our community. So we started making phone calls. The need was out there.
“There are no words to describe how much we thank everyone for helping make this meal drive such a success.” Our mission at Monroe County Hospital is We Care for our Community. “Helping others never goes out of season,”stated Sheffield. |
