Labor & Delivery Receives New Monitor
Pictured is Sabrina McPherson, and John Stallworth. Sabrina and John can listen to the baby’s heartbeat as she walks up and down the hall.
Monroe County Hospital’s Labor and Delivery Department has a new Chronometric Telemetry System. This system transmits fetal heart rate and uterine activity signals from a mother who is waking around in her room or in the hallway to a bedside maternal/fetal monitor. A headset is used allowing the mother, family or staff to hear the ultrasonically detected heartbeat for reassurance. This portable system allows the mother freedom to walk around in the designated areas, while having the baby’s heart rate monitored.
The patient is instructed prior to ambulating to walk in a smooth gliding motions, and they are shown the areas that are within the signals range.
Not every laboring mother is a candidate for use of the remote monitoring system, and use would be determined by the physician.
