Monroe County Hospital's program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and is such a benefit for patients in our area. Without this program patients would have to travel to Mobile or Montgomery for a recognized diabetes program.

This is what local residents are saying about the hospital's diabetes self management education program:

  • I am learning to control my diabetes and lower my blood sugar.
  • This information will help my baby and me have a healthier lifestyle!
  • The educators explained everything on my level.
  • Attending the program will help me plan meals that will better serve my daughter's type one diabetes.

Individual and Group Diabetes Classes

Physician referrals are required for education. Contact the Diabetes Education Department @ (251) 743-7369 to schedule an appointment time. Individual sessions are offered Monday-Thursday.

A follow up group class is offered the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 8:00am-3:00 pm. A snack and lunch are provided.

Diabetes Support Group

The Diabetes Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the hospital cafeteria. No fee or registration is required.
