Cindy Sales receives International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification

The Lactation (breastfeeding) Program at Monroe County Hospital is in full swing. Cindy Sales received notification this week of her successful completion of all requirements to be certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Cindy advanced her basic certification as a lactation counselor by passing an additional higher level certification examination to become a lactation consultant. Cindy is the only International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in our region.
The Centers for Disease Control, The American Academy of Pediatrics and The Joint Commission (a national accreditation agency) recommend breastfeeding for the first 6 months of a baby’s life because of the health benefits for moms and babies. Monroe County Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission
Cindy has been instrumental in developing the breastfeeding staff education program at Monroe County Hospital as well as developing the program requirements for consulting with pregnant and breastfeeding patients. Childbirth and breastfeeding classes have been moved from the hospital setting to the physicians’ offices for the convenience of patients and Cindy is available to see pregnant women and those women who have already delivered. This breastfeeding consultation service is offered to patients at MCH and the surrounding area on an inpatient and outpatient basis. There is no fee for the service. Cindy will see inpatients in labor and delivery and is available to see outpatients by appointment.
