An Unexpected Journey...
Pictured are Fred Kelley, Founder of Peddlin for a Cure; Ashley McPhaul, CRNA; and Samuel Gregory, Interim CEO, Monroe County Hospital
The Monroe County Hospital recently suffered the loss of one of its former employees to cancer. Mr. David Frost, CRNA had worked for Monroe County Hospital for 32 years.
After the funeral Ashley McPhaul was talking to Mr. Fred Kelley doing something in memory of Mr. David Frost. Fred suggested organizing a Peddlin for a Cure team in his memory. Ashley stated that he explained to Kelley that he had not ridden a bike in 20 years, and did not even own one. Two days later Fred Kelley received a phone call from Bob Penton ( Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Monroeville, and the pastor over Mr. David Frost’s funeral) asking him if he knew of anyone who would like a bicycle. Mr. Penton had one that he was not using, and wanted to donate it. Kelley stated that he had no idea what shape the bike was in until he went to pick it up. When he saw it, he immediately loaded it up, and delivered it to where it was meant to go.
That day Ashley walked out on his porch to find a road ready bike in excellent condition with a tag that read, “Merry Christmas from Fred Claus”
“I was so surprised. It was almost as if the bike had come from David himself,” stated McPhaul
Ashley McPhaul will be heading up the hospital’s peddlin team Frosty in memory of Mr. David Frost.
