Kay Dobson (right), chairperson of the Monroe Health Foundation and Cancer Center Capital Campaign Committee “burns the note” of the Southwest Community Cancer Treatment Center with Pam Mixon, Foundation Coordinator, at the ceremony on September 6, 2007.

At the recent Note Burning celebration at the Cancer Treatment Center, Mrs. Dobson welcomed guests from the Monroe County Hospital Board and the Monroe Health Foundation Board, the Cancer Center Capital Campaign Committee, corporate representatives, area organizations/clubs members, individual donors, physicians and patients. She expressed a heart felt thank you to each and every person for joining in on the celebration.
Mrs. Dobson reviewed the numerous capital campaign fundraising events that helped to build the center, including the Miracle Mile, dove shoots, the Auburn/Alabama coin challenge, jewelry and plant sales, quilt and parking space raffles, and the Mardi Gras Ball, the Murder Mystery dinner theatre, the Fifties Sock Hop, Hunting for Big Bucks, the charity appeal retain sale, and fishing and golf tournaments.
She said that the Kick Off Banquet with Coach Gene Stallings where a 13-year-old donated his birthday money really stood out in her mind. “Each event was special in its own way and helped bring us here tonight,” Mrs. Dobson noted.
Appreciation was voiced for the Christmas collections purchases, memorial donations, Art for Living projects, and for those who donated time and efforts for the cause.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Dobson said, “I hope that you and your loved ones will never have to use the cancer center. But if you do, please know that you will receive state of the art treatment and the highest level of care right HERE at home.” Since the opening in 2004, the center has truly endeavored to improve the health and lives of those 258 patients who received treatment. She stated that the Monroe Health Foundation and the Monroe County Hospital Board sincerely thanks everyone who made the Southwest Cancer Treatment Center a reality HERE in Monroe County!
