Art for Living Christmas Selection
Artists of Photo Greeting Cards and Christmas T-Shirt
Beatrice Baptist Church Children designed the regular Christmas card!
Students age five through seventeen loaned their artistic talents to the Monroe Health Foundation’s Art for Living project to benefit the Southwest Alabama Community Cancer Center! The talented students created the 2005 Art for Living Christmas selection which includes photo greeting cards, a regular Christmas card, and a festive holiday t-shirt.
Individuals wishing to purchase the Art for Living items, can see the selection at the Cancer Treatment Center or order by emailing pwelch@mchcare.com or calling 743-7391. The selection will also be offered at the Foundation’s booth at the upcoming Mockingbird Market at the Community House!
“We had such great participation throughout the county,” said Art for Living Chairperson, Kay Dobson. “We wish we could choose every child’s artwork but our committee has to narrow the choices down each year!”
Dobson points out that each child will be a winner when their artwork is given to patients in December at Monroe County Hospital and the Cancer Center! “For some of our patients, this will be the only card they get and that makes every child a winner!” said Pattie Welch.
Amanda Winters submitted the winning entry of Christmas trees for the long sleeve, white t-shirt. This Monroe Academy student is the ten year old daughter of John and Joyce Winters of Monroeville. Her t-shirt is available soon for a $15 donation to the Monroe Health Foundation. The Christmas photo and regular cards are available in bundles of 25 for $1.00 per card and envelope. This year’s Art for Living selection will be offered at the foundation’s booth at the Mockingbird Market November 3 and 4. Individuals can also call Pattie Welch at 743-7391 to order.
The 2005 regular greeting card was designed by the Beatrice Baptist Church children under the direction of their minister, Brother Jeff Robison. Two choices will be offered on this card, one featuring children bring home the Christmas tree and a sign bearing the city of Beatrice’s name. This will be perfect for newcomers and life long residents of this town at the North end of our county. For those from other areas of the county and state, the same card is offered without the Beatrice sign.
This year’s photo greeting cards were developed by Samantha Morgan, Allison Joyner, Nicki Jo Floyd, Lucia Diez de la Lastra Cruz, and Jennifer Dias. Five year old Samantha Morgan is the daughter of Alan and Debra Morgan of Monroeville and a Kindergartener at Monroe Academy. Seven year old Allison Joyner is the daughter of Phillip and Angela Joyner of Monroeville and is a second grader at Monroe Academy.
Other photo greeting card winners include Nicki Jo Floyd, Lucia Cruz, and Jennifer Dias.
Nicki Jo is the fifteen year old daughter of Jeff and and Mollie Floyd of Monroeville.
Seventeen year old foreign exchange students from Spain Lucia Diez de la Lastra Cruz and Jennifer Dias are among the winners. These three teenagers attend Monroe County High School and developed their cards in Mrs. Judy Philen’s class.
Art for Living shows students and adults how to use their artistic ability to help make life better for those with cancer. This year we were fortunate to include selections from Spanish foreign exchange students. This diverse group of students teaches us a good lesson. No matter if you are miles from home and pronounce this disease in Spanish or from Alabama and pronounce it with a Southern dialect, cancer hurts in any language.
