Monroe Countian Receives Cancer Treatment at Southwest Alabama Community Cancer Center Southwest Alabama Community Cancer Center Office Manager, Tabitha Lambeth, explains Radiation Therapy to Ms. Hall. Ms. Betty Hall is a thankful lady! Although Ms. Hall’s recent mammogram and breast biopsy at Monroe County Hospital detected breast cancer, she is counting her blessings. “Having a cancer treatment center here saves me the ninety mile round trip drive I would have had to Brewton for my radiation therapy,” said Ms. Hall. “I had been dreading the drive but now I only have to ride sixteen miles round trip from Excel to Monroeville!” Two days after her suspicious mammogram, MCH surgeon Dr. David Stallworth performed an excision of a breast mass. When he determined the mass was malignant, he performed an excision with biopsy of axillary lymph nodes. “ Dr. Stallworth didn’t waste any time,” said Ms. Hall. “He performed these outpatient procedures and I didn’t even have to stay overnight in the hospital.” Dr. Stallworth referred her to Dr. Bill Hixson of the Southwest Alabama Community Cancer Center in Monroeville. Dr. Hixson ordered seven weeks of radiation therapy for her making her the first Monroe County patient to begin radiation therapy at the Monroeville cancer center, located behind Regions Bank. Having a short daily trip for radiation therapy will allow Ms. Hall to spend more time with her son,Greg, and daughter, Tammy. This grandmother also will have more time for 13 year old Caleb Smith, 12 year old Dillon Hall, 3 year old Cody Hall, and five month old Logan Hall Booker.
