Dr. Vereen Farrar returns to hometown to practice medicine
“War Eagle!” is a common cry for Dr. Vereen Farrar during fall football season! While Farrar may seem like the quiet type who enjoys shopping, watching movies, and going to the beach, she gets very serious about Auburn football and any SEC football game!
Dr. Farrar graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science and Pre-Medicine. She attended Monroe Academy before transferring to the Alabama School of Fine Arts High School in Birmingham where she received her high school diploma and music major.
Dr. Farrar doesn’t shy away from adventure either! She has a trip planned to Australia in the fall. She began her adventure to become a physician when she attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. In May 2001, she graduated with her Doctorate of Medicine.
Monroe County Hospital is pleased to add this delightful adventurer to the medical staff! “I am excited about working with the excellent physicians in Monroeville and I know I will learn a lot from them,” says Farrar. She will join Monroeville Medical Clinic in Family Practice/Obstetrics.
Farrar is no stranger to the Monroeville Medical Clinic or Monroe County Hospital. “I spent six weeks with Dr. Angela Powell as a third-year medical student and I discovered what a treasure she is for Monroe County! I am honored to be working with her and the whole staff at MMC,” Farrar says.
While Dr. Farrar will assist patients with diabetes, hypertension, colds, and other medical needs, she will also practice Obstetrics. “Obstetrics is both rewarding and challenging,” says Farrar. “You get to develop a relationship with the mother through her prenatal visits, assist her through the birthing process, and have the opportunity to provide care for the baby.”
Even though she will be practicing obstetrics, she still hopes to see male patients and older patients. Dr. Farrar says she loves to help diabetics better manage their glucose levels.
She has gained valuable work experience through the years. This includes the Washington County Infirmary where she worked as an emergency room physician and the University of South Alabama where she completed her family practice residency. Dr. Farrar has also worked with Pulmonary Associates, P.A., as a medical assistant and with Mobile Infirmary as a scrub tech.
Her work experience and education, coupled with being a Monroe County resident, make her a perfect fit for our area! Farrar is the daughter of Duke and Jenny Farrar of Goodway. Her sister, Allison Farrar Milliron, lives in Louisiana with her husband, Josh. They have a daughter named Shellie and a newborn son, William.
Dr. Farrar feels that there is a need for primary care providers, especially in rural areas, and she is happy to fill that need! And what better place to fill that need then in her hometown.
